To Whom it May Concern:
I am writing to express my admiration and appreciation for the job Alphonso Grace, Jr. (aka Junie Grace) and Al West did in unloading our belongings. They were incredibly hard, steady, skilled workers who were consistently pleasant and cheerful.
Our furniture and our many boxes of books arrived on June 18th, a very hot day. We had over 15,000 pounds, the vast majority in heavy boxes of books and papers, although we also had several quite heavy pieces of furniture. Junie and Al set to work immediately. After a brief tour of what went where they worked consistently with minimal supervision, when necessary asking where a piece went but usually able to identify for themselves where items should go.
Our new house was built in 1875 and has very narrow stairs and doors. There were several pieces including first a credenza weighing 300+ pounds which I and the truck driver through could not possibly go where we wanted (up a narrow flight of stairs and then over a banister onto a tiny balcony) and secondly, two massive legal filing cases (certainly well over 150 pounds each) that we wanted down the narrow, low basement stairs and then under some low-hanging basement fixtures into a back corner. In each case, Junie and Al discussed the situation with each other and then convinced the driver they could get the pieces where we wanted them. I have little doubt that without Junie and Al these three pieces would not have ended up where they did.
We also had an estimated 6000 pounds of books, most in very heavy boxes. Again, Junie and Al got directions once for where the differently labeled boxes were to go (“J” boxes to one place, “Kathy” boxes to another, “misc” to another, etc.) and followed those directions wonderfully. Near the end of the unloading, I was so hot and tired I was telling them they could just put anything wherever convenient: they instead continued to follow the original plan and put things where they were designed to go.
In a career that has included supervising several professional moves, I have never met two workers who combined the skill to figure out how a maneuver could be done successfully, the strength to carry it out, the stamina to work so steadily with so few breaks, and the consistently cheerful, polite, generally delightful personalities that these two men have. I am saving their names to recommend to anyone who asks. Thank you for assigning these men to our move.
Please feel free to contact me for further information.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth
