When thinking about the most stressful or time-consuming part of your home to pack for a move, most people think of those large items in the den or living room or the breakables that are sitting on the mantle. However, does anyone ever stop and think about the bathroom? It seems like it would be simple, but in reality, it is not.

Why Packing a Bathroom can be Harder than You Realize?

What is it about a bathroom that makes it harder to pack? Most people think of the bathroom as being easy because it is often smaller than other rooms in the house. But, just because this is small, does not mean that it is easy. There are three main issues when packing a bathroom:

  1. You cannot pack this too early! You have to have the perfect timing for the bathroom. After all, if you are packing up the rest of the house, chances are you are still staying here, and you will need the bathroom. At the same time, you don’t want to wait too late or you may do a poor job of packing this up.
  2. The bathroom has tons of fragile items! There are perfume bottles, medicine bottles, makeup bottles, etc. These are often breakable, so they must be packed with protection in mind.
  3. There is a huge risk for spills. Imagine this, you pack the conditioner that smells like coconut, reminding you of a day at the beach. When you unpack it is has spilled over everything…now everything has that extra moisturized feel and smells like coconut. It has happened that is why it takes special packing techniques and time to get this room packed.

How to Pack the Bathroom

Packing the bathroom is going to really depend upon your personal packing style. However, we do have a few tips that can help to make this as effortless and safe as possible:

-  Be sure that you are sorting through the items in the bathroom. You don’t want to take bottles that are almost empty to your new home.

-  Keep in mind that medications will need to be moved by you, so place these into a bag that you are keeping with you during the move.

-  Get rid of those items that you no longer need. If you have towels that have seen their better days, then use these for packing material. Likewise, if you have a lighted mirror that no longer lights, is broken, then toss this.

-  Consider sorting your times in the bathroom into groups to pack together. For example, appliances (hairdryer, curling iron, etc), toiletries, cosmetics, towels and so forth.

-  Be sure to pad the boxes that contain breakables…here is where those old towels may come to good use.

-  Ensure all bottles have the lid on their tightly. You may even want to place some bottles into gallon Ziploc bags, tap the lids, or somehow make it to where this cannot leak.
