With the Coronavirus (COVID-19) running rampant throughout the country, there is a lot of fear and miscommunication taking place. With this being said, we have compiled a few tips from the CDC and “Medical News Today” that every person in Long Island should be utilizing to help stop the spread and stay healthy during these trying times.

  1. Wash your hands regularly! You will want to wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water. If you are unable to wash your hands with water, a hand sanitizer can be used, but it must be at 60% alcohol to be effective.

  2. Wipe down hard surfaces such as tables, countertops, your desk, chairs and the like with a disinfectant.

  3. If you do develop a fever and cough, avoid traveling as this is how it is being spread. Instead, get tested. Long Island is offering several locations for testing, with some even offering drive up testing to avoid being around people.

  4. Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth, even if you are being diligent about washing your hands.

  5. If someone in your home does become sick, have a room that is for their use only to avoid the rest of the family coming into contact with this.

  6. Be sure that you have your medications in stock. Many pharmacies are working with patients to fill these as soon as possible.

  7. Stay at home if you can. In Long Island, most people practice social distancing where they are not coming into contact with someone at all, unless it is those immediate family members in their own home.

  8. The CDC also notes that while people are in social isolation or social distancing, they can experience a lot of stress and emotional upheaval. Be sure to take care of these issues as well as your physical health.

We hope everyone out there is doing their best to abide by the rules that the government is putting into place so that we can all get back to normal sooner rather than later. Be safe and healthy!
